20090217-0 Stardust Awards: Asin and Farhan get top honours

The Max Stardust Award 2009 gave away the top honours to Farhan Akhtar and Asin for their performances in Rock On and Ghajini respectively.

The duo, who made their Bollywood debut in respective films, were given the ‘Superstar of Tomorrow’ (Male and Female) awards at the gala event on Sunday evening. ‘Rock On’ director Abhishek Kapoor bagged the editor’s choice award for most promising director.

‘A Wednesday’, a film about a common man’s war against terrorism, won the Best Film award. Its director Neeraj Pandey was given the Best Director award.

Aamir Khan starrer ‘Ghajini’, which has become a monster hit, won the Hottest Film award. Its director A R Murugadoss won the Hottest New Filmmaker trophy.

Amitabh Bachchan bagged Searchlight Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of an ageing Shakespearean actor in Rituparno Ghosh’s film ‘The Last Lear’.

Receiving the award on Feb 15 was a nostalgic experience for the superstar, because 40 years ago he had signed his first film ‘Saat Hindustani’ on the same date, the superstar reveals on his blog.

Awards for the Best Breakthrough Performance (Male and Female) went to Prateik Babbar and Manjari Phadnis for ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’.

Special award to Anil Kapoor for being the first mainstream Indian actor to take India to Hollywood and winning global recognition
