Last year, at a function when Ilayathalapathy Vijay said that Poorna looks like Asin, it made her career. In the industry she was known as the Asin look-alike and created a flutter.

Now Poorna has gone one step ahead and is copying Asin Chechi’s style of dancing, facial expressions and her famous walk in songs!

Take a look at Kandha Kottaisongs and promos on television, you will find Poorna doing exactly what Chechi did in the hit song sequences of Pokkiri, Vel, Ghajini, Sivakasi etc.

After almost two years and two films in Bollywood, Asin is thinking of making a comeback to Tamil cinema. And it is learnt that Vijay has approached her with a project suited for her and that she has given the nod for it. Asin and Vijay had acted together in superhits ‘Sivakasi’ and ‘Pokkiri’.

‘Dasavatharam’ was her last release in Tamil. Post Hindi ‘Ghajini’, starring Aamir Khan in the lead, the bubbly actress became one of the most sought after leading ladies in Bollywood and she found it hard to spare time for Tamil films. But, her second film in Hindi, ‘London dreams’, sank without a trace at the B.o and that would have made her rethink her priorities.

What matter, are her five ‘set’ criteria, “The script, my role, the director, the producer and my co-stars,” she says, “Doing movies in another language is not a problem at all. I didn’t know most of these languages before entering the industry. Thankfully, I have a flair for languages and I never used a dubbing artiste.”

So choosing movies involves careful calculation for her? “I’m not calculative at all,” she quickly responds, “I have not made any strategies or plans. Frankly, I’m not consciously thinking of a balance so to say, but finally it all depends on what comes my way. Right now, I have one or two Hindi movies in hand.”

The event had a bit of razzle and dazzle, thanks to film and small screen stars who lit up the night. While Aishwaryaa Dhanush received a pat on her cheek from the Chief Minister, percussionist Sivamani literally drummed it up while receiving his award.

When CT caught up with Asin, who had flown in to the city to receive the award, she said, “It feels good to get the award; the Chief Minister wished me the best.”

After their amazing combo in super hit Sivakasi (2005) and Pokkiri (2007), much-sought-after actors Ilayathalapathi Vijay and Kerala beauty Asin are expected to pair up once again in an untitled Tamil film to be produced by Aascar Ravichandran.

According to sources, though nothing about this film has been finalized, it looks like Asin would surely sign the project as producer Aascar Ravichandran earlier cast her opposite Kamal Haasan in his Dasavathaaram, which became a turning point in her career.

Asin said no to Priyadarshan’s De Dana Dan opposite Akshay Kumar because of the length of her role. Katrina happily bagged the role arguing she wanted to be part of the film because of her pairing with Akshay.

… .And to be part of the lavish laughathon which promises to be one of the biggest hits of the year. Instead, Asin chose to do London Dreams where it so turns out that her role is not that substantial after all (to put it mildly). There is shock and disbelief about the length and scope of Asin’s role in London Dreams. After Ghajini, where she dominated the show, Asin as a chorus singer of a grunge band in London Dreams seems a bit hard to swallow.

Only good scripts can impress Asin now. Yeah! The South Indian actress has become busier with Bollywood projects and looks like she’s occupied with busy schedules till next year. She has been out from Tamil films since long but now she is planning to make a come back.

The actress was recently here in Chennai to receive the Kalaimamani awards from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Interacting with media channels on this occasion, Asin said, “I am so elated for TN Government honoring me with the prestigious title of ‘Kalaimamani’.”
