About the celebrations for the occasions, Asin chirps “This one’s special ever since I joined the film industry, I haven’t been able to celebrate Onam like I did when I was a kid. But this year my Onam is going to be in Mumbai and I’ve made sure I keep the day free from shoots; dad and mum will both be here with me.”
On the festivities and flower decorations, Asin says “A riot of colours I have had the most colourful Onams. It’s traditional to have these flower arrangements and flower carpets during the 10 days that leads up to Onam.”

My Ghajini sweetie Asin Thottumkal has got the first taste of how bad Bollywood can be.
A li’l birdie chirped that she is feeling leftout these days. The boys gang of London Dreams – actors Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, and director Vipul Amrutlal Shah – didn’t think it was important to include Asin prominently in the first promos of the film, as it is a story of “two best friends”.
Only after Asin complained to Vipul that the director is now going around town saying that the forthcoming trailers will have ample footage of the actress, and that she is important to the film.

A source said, “Asin is actively associated with various NGOs in Kerela and Chennai. She secretly visits these NGOs whenever she finds the time. She loves being actively involved with all the charity work that they do.”
Asin personally looks into the disabled and the needy. “But Asin does not like to talk about all this. These things are not meant to be spoken about. She has been doing this for years now and has been a regular visitor to the various institutions in Chennai and Kerela.
Being philanthropic is Asin’s second nature and she puts her heart and soul in it.”

Think twice before you get chatty with ‘Asin’ on any of the social networking sites. You might end up making a fool of yourself for it’s an impersonator pretending as the Ghajini star Asin.
Asin has been aware of her fake IDs on Orkut, Facebook and even Twitter, but she took it lightly, hoping that the impersonators could bring no serious harm. But now, after a few incidents that could dent her reputation, Asin is getting serious about the theft of her virtual identity.

Now firmly entrenched in the A-list category, Asin has not forgotten her social duties and can be regularly seen helping out at the NGOs that she patronises in Chennai and Kerala. “Whenever she finds some time, Asin secretly visits these NGOs and loves being actively involved with all the charity work that they do,” confirms a source, “She personally looks after the disabled and the needy in these NGOs. However, unlike other stars she prefers to remain mum about it and not make it a self publicity exercise. She has been doing this for years now and has been a regular visitor to various institutions in Chennai and Kerala.”

Many fans express their affection for their stars in creative ways. Some tend to border on the extreme, as Asin discovered.
A fan from Chennai sent her a massive rock and proposed marriage in an emotional letter. Asin is a huge star down South, and that fervour hasn’t dimmed even though she’s moved to Mumbai after Ghajini.
Some fans build temples, some write letters in blood, others stand outside star homes for hours. This is not Asin’s first brush with a fan who is a fanatic. Recently, she was stalked in Singapore, which unsettled her considerably.

enormous rock and to top it off, a marriage proposal through a touching letter.Asin made her debut with Aamir Khan’s remake of Ghajini. Likewise, Asin was the actress who played the role of Kalpana Shetty in the intial production of Ghajini as well. On Onam, actor Asin takes a trip down memory lane with DNA
This one’s special
Ever since I joined the film industry, I haven’t been able to celebrate Onam like I did when I was a kid. But this year my Onam is going to be in Mumbai and I’ve made sure I keep the day free from shoots; dad and mum will both be here with me.
A riot of colours
I have had the most colourful Onams. It’s traditional to have these flower arrangements and flower carpets during the 10 days that leads up to Onam. We had a large bungalow (in Kerala) with a garden and I remember getting up in the mornings, going into the garden with a basket in hand to collect all sorts of flowers to make the flower carpet.
